Sage One ‘Plus One’ competition in summary

Sage One Accounts ExtraTo celebrate the launch of Sage One Accounts Extra in October, we ran our Sage One ‘Plus One’ competition as a chance for you to say “thank you” to the person who helped the most when you first started your business.

The competition has now come to a close, with our tenth and final winner Jamie (below):

‘Start-up Steps’

Jamie was nominated by his partner Rebekah, who set up her own business offering educational workshops to young people not engaging in classrooms. Jamie was Rebekah’s rock throughout the whole process, helping her create her website, perfecting her pitch and even helping out with her taxes. You can read the full nomination here.

Previous winners

With the competition now over, we can look back on all the inspiring winners we had, each one providing that crucial help and support to help their getting someone’s business off the ground:

‘He is my rock’

Sam was nominated by his girlfriend, Sophia, for his all-round support -“Whether it is advice on technical issues, social media or just making me breakfast in bed with tea after long haul flights – he is my rock and ensures that I run smoothly, therefore my business does!” You can read the nominations for Sam here.

‘His humbleness and generosity of time and personal investment is extraordinary’

Mike was nominated by Annmarie Lewis who runs a social enterprise that works with disaffected young people and takes them on a journey of change to run their own enterprises. Mike helped Annmarie when no one else would, investing financially as well supporting her and helping her to business acumen. You can read the nominations for Mike here.

‘Very understanding fiancée’

Paul nominated his fiancée Helen. Paul lost his job just as he and Helen were due to get married, and Helen has been endlessly patience and supportive whilst Paul has worked tirelessly to get himself back on track. You can read Paul’s entry here.

‘Confidence to achieve…’

When Tanya was starting her business Genny put her in touch with a business coach and her advice was crucial in getting the funding. But more than anything Genny gave Tanya the confidence to succeed and make her dream a reality. You can read Tanya’s entry here.

‘Super Son!’

When Sue had trouble accessing the files on her computer she needed for her work, her son Phil dropped everything to get on a train to come and help her, and then spent the time to set up her computer to ensure that it’d never happen again. You can read Sue’s entry here.

‘My Rock’

David was Diana’s rock when she opened her own Interior & Architectural Design Studio, letting her live at his home whilst she set the business up. He helped her with never ending encouragement and a little money when needed, as well as always being available to look after Diana’s kids when necessary. You can read Diana’s entry here.

‘Help from mum’

Sally had nominated her mother for her financial and emotional support when establishing her business, Ada Rose Holistic Therapies.

Her mother’s assistance, even when faced with her own challenges, is an inspiring story. You can read her entry here.

‘Dad knows best’

Heather had nominated her dad as her ‘Plus One’ for his unwavering support when she moved down to Cornwall with her husband to start a new electrical contracting business.

Heather had never lived more than a few miles away from her dad, so moving so far away from him at the same time as taking a leap into the unknown with a new business was difficult for her. However he never questioned her decision, and kept in touch with daily phone calls to give advice and encouragement.

They now have a successful business, NOVO Electrical Ltd, and so Heather wanted to say thanks to her dad for his faith and guidance. You can read her full entry here.

‘Generosity Is Contagious’

Our first week’s winner was Jenny Moore! Her uplifting story was about the success of her business with help of her Plus One, her daughter, (who gets the £300), whose help was instrumental in helping Jenny’s shop to thrive.

Jenny is the founder of B@titude, specialising in good quality, second hand babies and children’s clothes, toys, games and equipment. As she mentions in her competition entry, she had the idea many years ago when trying to buy toys for her four children.

Now, through the generosity of people’s donations, the shop is a more than just vital part of the Leatherhead community – “it’s a doorway into people’s lives and families”. You can read Jenny’s full entry here.
