Yesterday, we had the pleasure of meeting and interviewing the wonderful Dale Murray CBE, an award-winning entrepreneur and angel investor at the Accelerate 2013 ‘festival for high growth businesses’ in Liverpool.
Dale ‘co-founded and launched mobile phone top-ups in Britain and built her business to £450m of gross revenue within 5 years (apparently using Sage 50 Accounts software to manage her finances)! She also holds a number of board positions in the public and private sector and was awarded ‘British Angel Investor of the Year’ in 2011 (UK Business Angels Association) and a CBE for services to industry in June 2013 by HM the Queen’.
We’re sorry. This video is no longer available.
In this interview, Dale tells how she started working for PriceWaterhouse at the age of 16 before training to be a qualified accountant. She then joined the management team which launched Vodafone in New Zealand and this experience led to launching a mobile phone top-up business in the late 1990’s.
After selling the business to an American corporation, she became an angel investor and now has a portfolio of businesses which she supports. Watch the video above to hear how much Dale values experience, connections and traction when deciding which businesses to invest in.
