Newcastle-based Stuart Varrall has won the 2013 Thinking Digital Startup Competition with the ‘BubbleScope’ – a smartphone accessory which enables users to take instant, 360o photos and videos that can be shared via the media platform (think YouTube for 360o).

BubblePix was one of 10 early stage tech startups (in their first 12 months of trading) shortlisted for the Sage One sponsored competition which formed a key part of the Thinking Digital Conference in Newcastle and Gateshead.

After pitching to an audience of delegates and judges that comprised of Nick Goode (Head of Sage One Europe), Aza Raskin (Jawbone), Marie Guidace (Facebook) and Stu Anderson (Blue Serac), BubblePix were chosen to pitch again at the main Thinking Digital Conference on Wednesday 22nd May alongside YPlan – ‘the world’s first mobile-only event booking app’.

Both businesses impressed with their confident and polished presentations but it was Stuart who the audience chose to be the eventual winner receiving:

– a £1,000 cash prize from Sage One
– free Sage One Accounts software
– £15,000 of Rackspace cloud hosting
– and an automatic interview for ignite100 – ‘Europe’s first £1m tech accelerator programme’
